This exquisite French Empire gold-gilded mirror from the 19th century boasts a sumptuous mercury mirror plate with a mellowed foxing patina. Dating from 1810-1950, the mirror is in excellent condition and should be hung "Portrait" as there is a splendidly decorated top frame and two serpentine lower corners. Not too dark or black, the intricate foxing adorning the mirror is visible in the photographs and, in our assessment, adds luster to the piece. The secure hanging chain makes installation simple; just locate a secure wall screw, or alternatively mount with a pair of mirror plates.
